ABOUT THE COMPETITION

My name is Brooks Anthony and I am working with a group of 11 friends around the US and Canada who share my desire to contribute to organizations that make the world a better place. Members take turns leading this philanthropy group for one month of the year to raise funds for the non-profit organization of their choosing. Each month, every member donates a small sum of money that the leader can use to either make a direct donation to a charity or sponsor an event to generate a larger donation.

For my month I am holding a fundraising competition to raise money for three charities – The First Tee of Fort Worth, Allie's Haven Animal Rescue, and the American Cancer Society of Kansas City. I chose these three organizations because they benefit causes that were near and dear to my mother, Melissa, who passed away from Breast Cancer in August of last year. I wanted to use February, the month she was born, to bring some good into the world in her memory because giving back to those in need is living The Melissa Way.

I will post periodic updates on the blog at the bottom of the homepage throughout the month to spur the competitive spirit and to encourage more sharing and donating among participants. In addition to the funds raised through online donations, the organization that receives the most donations at the end of the month will also receive the philanthropy group's contributions as a bonus donation.

I hope that this site serves as a constant reminder of Melissa's passion and zeal. The blog at the bottom of the homepage will also serve as a message board to share stories about Melissa, please share as you see fit.
